Best couples apps in 2026: an honest comparison

Disclosure first, because it matters. One of the apps below — Anthea — is ours. We wrote this because most "best couples apps" lists are written by app makers without saying so. We have said so. We have also written plainly about where the other apps are the better choice, and where ours is the wrong one.

Short answer: Paired is the safest general choice and has the largest content library. Agapé is the lightest daily habit, especially at a distance. Lasting is the most course-like. Evergreen is the strongest at gentle daily nudges. Anthea is for couples who want each week written up as an analysis rather than scored, and it is the only one of these that treats Turkish as a first language.

What almost all of them now share

It is worth saying clearly, because marketing copy in this category often implies otherwise:

So if an app tells you it is the only one that "analyses" rather than just asking questions, treat that carefully. The real differences are in tone, depth, language and what happens over months rather than weeks.

Paired 4.73 · 205,201 US ratings

The category leader by a wide margin, and the one most people should try first. Years of accumulated questions, games, quizzes and expert-written content; a polished product with a large team behind it. Its Relationship Insights feature produces weekly AI summaries from the questions both partners have answered.

Choose Paired if you want the broadest library, the most polish, and English-language expert content — and you are not looking for anything unusual.

Worth knowing: a recurring complaint in reviews is that written answers become inaccessible once a subscription or trial lapses. If keeping what you wrote matters to you, check this before committing.

Evergreen 4.82 · 54,132 US ratings

Grew without venture funding and earned an unusually loyal following. Built around light daily relationship habits and consistent nudges rather than long reflective writing.

Choose Evergreen if your problem is consistency rather than depth — you want something that keeps you showing up daily.

Cozy Couples 4.84 · 42,659 US ratings

The highest-rated app in this comparison. Warm, playful and game-like, with a lower emotional barrier to entry than the more clinical options.

Choose Cozy Couples if you want the daily ritual to feel like play, not like homework.

Agapé 4.80 · 26,173 US ratings

Positioned explicitly around distance — "Feel Close When Apart". One easy question a day, plus attachment style and love language profiles.

Choose Agapé if you are in a long-distance relationship, or if a single light question a day is the most you will realistically sustain.

Lasting 4.68 · 24,955 US ratings

The most programme-like of the group: structured sessions and exercises, closer to a guided course than a daily habit, with a relationship health assessment.

Choose Lasting if you want to work through something structured together, in a defined sequence, rather than answer open questions.

Anthea new · released July 2026

Ours. Written by a practising clinical couples and family therapist, who also made the app's artwork. Five short questions a day; answers stay hidden until both partners have written; at the end of each week the answers become a written analysis — the essence of the week, a strength, an area worth attention, a pattern noticed, and one next step. There are no scores and no badges. Beyond the weekly analysis there are month, quarter, half-year and year reviews. One partner's subscription covers both.

Choose Anthea if you want your week written up in language rather than reduced to a number, if you value that a working clinician wrote the questions, or if you want an app that treats Turkish as a first language rather than a translation.

Do not choose Anthea if you want a large archive of games and quizzes (Paired is far ahead), if you want a structured course (Lasting), or if you want a long track record — Anthea launched in July 2026 and has very few reviews so far. It is also iOS only, with no Android version yet.

How to choose, in one paragraph

Ask what actually goes wrong between you. If you rarely talk, pick whatever is easiest to sustain daily — Agapé, Cozy Couples or Evergreen. If you talk but keep having the same argument, pick something that gives structure — Lasting, or Paired's expert content. If you talk well but suspect you are each remembering the relationship differently, pick something that writes the week back to you — that is the gap Anthea was built for. And if you are simply curious and want the safest first try, Paired is the reasonable default.

Common questions

Do couples apps actually work?

There is reasonable evidence that structured relationship exercises help, and some app-based programmes have been studied in controlled trials. But most individual apps — including ours — have not been tested that way. Treat "science-based" claims as a statement about design foundations, not proven outcomes.

Can a couples app replace therapy?

No. None of these apps diagnose or treat anything, and none are crisis services. They can make conversations easier and patterns more visible, which sometimes helps people decide to seek therapy. If there is violence, abuse or danger, contact local emergency services rather than an app.

Which couples apps work in Turkish?

Most of the apps here are English-first, with translations of varying quality. Anthea's Turkish questions were written in Turkish rather than translated, which is currently its clearest practical advantage for Turkish-speaking couples.

Does one subscription cover both partners?

This varies and is worth checking before you pay. In Anthea, one partner subscribing makes both partners Premium. Other apps handle this differently; check the app's own pricing page.

How was this comparison made?

Ratings and rating counts were retrieved from the public App Store listings (United States storefront) on 8 August 2026 and are quoted as they appeared. Feature descriptions come from each app's own public documentation and store listing. We did not rank the apps by a score, because the right choice depends on what is actually going wrong between two people.
